Blog — By lizzie87 on May 8, 2012 3:48 PMEvery year, the IIHF World Championships fall smack dab in the middle of NHL playoff time so needless to say, the games don’t get as much attention as they might if the tournament were to be another time – especially since many of the top players in the world are on those 16 teams that start in the playoffs. But the games are fairly huge over in Europe
And, for the European born players that started off on a larger ice surface, headed to the NHL where rinks are smaller and then back once again to the larger ice in Europe is a bit of an adjustment
Okay so that is interesting but I really only posted it so that I could have a reason to refer to the IIHF Power Rankings (you can see them here). I’m pretty sure their descriptions are reason enough alone to give them a bit more attention. Nice to know that an official source of hockey can have a sense of humour!

hahaha the power rankings are awesome! Ive been watching a little IIHF since my Flames arent in playoffs, but with how exciting this years have been its hard not to watch!

Very amusing and it would be nice if this tourny was held maybe closer to the NHL finals because then you don’t have NHL hockey every night on tv!

I’ve been following the tournament, it’s pretty good hockey. Especially, when there is an off-day for the NHL and nothing’s on. I saw these specific power rankings before, they are hysterical. I did a double-take to make sure I was on the IIHF website haha!
